Local dialling appear about to end due to a lack of available numbers

Ofcom has reported that a number of areas of Britain will no longer be capable of make local calls without needing the area code as phone numbers in a number of areas are running out of numbers.

The plan will be started in Bournemouth the coming year, with many other areas not having enough numbers for example Aberdeen, Bradford, Brighton, Cambridge and Milton Keynes looking set to be involved in the scheme by 2016.

All kinds of other areas have been presented as likely in need of using area codes in the next decade, but locations including London, Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham and Edinburgh are not affected because they have shorter area codes.

Ofcom also declared more phone number providers have put pressure on the availability of numbers and some of them have been keeping hold of numbers and it turns out it is things like this which have resulted in the shortage. To prevent this, Ofcom are going to be charging providers 10p for each number to make certain they use numbers more efficiently, an expense which won’t be handed onto the public.

It is thought that this system will be much less troublesome for both domestic and business customers, along with users of telephone systems for small business. Although internal phone systems in some businesses may require some changes.
