Education

One-minute summary

Like many of the key 'gut issues' of national politics, education policy is almost entirely a matter for national (and local) government. The EU has no say at all in how we organise and fund our schools and universities.

However, in the few areas where there is a European angle, the activities which we undertake with our neighbouring countries tend to be very popular. These include:

  • cross-cultural study and exchanges;
  • the right of students to live and study in any EU country on the same terms as residents of that country;
  • mutual compatibility and recognition of qualifications across the EU.

  • Democracy in Europe: "Most insidious of all is the way the EU targets propaganda at children."
